Let’s say you had a momentary lapse of stupidity and did this:
After the moment of stupidity passed, how would you get yourself unstuck (assuming you had to do it on your own and maybe with the help of a friend)?
If it was me, I would try to get myself unstuck by raising the rear even more using a jack of some sort and stacking a bunch of wooden blocks underneath, then using 4-low (if availa
ble) to get that back passenger side wheel onto the rock and slowly and carefully drive off of it with the help of a spotter.
Would you do the same or something different?

A high lift jack and back up, but it’s going to f all hard and potentially tear off the front bumper.

When mall crawling goes wrong. This is why so many mall crawling Jeeps drive around with hi lifts on the hoods.
That front wheel looks like it’s touching, so I’d try to straighten it out and reverse out.

Given the shape of the rock, I’d do the same. Get that back tire on and then use wooden blocks to create “steps” down from the slope of the rock and curb so as not to tear the back bumper off or cause additional damage.

I’m trying to understand the physics of how that (small) SUV got onto the death rock facing in that direction. If it was rounding the corner, you’d think it would be at a more cross-wise angle toward perpendicular with the rock. It looks like it just drove right up onto it, which is hard to believe due to the Jeep’s limited break over (like, it should have just hit the rock with the front bumper) and ground clearance.

The smart has basically unlimited approach and departure angles. So long as I can get a drive wheel on the ground and one of the front wheels on the rock, I can get it back down without damage. I’d probably just use a trail jack to position it in that manner.

Aussiming I have no tools or anyone to help, and that it has 4 low, I’d try inc hing forward and see about getting that rear wheel slowly down the face of the rock. Hard to tell but the drivers side rear could possibly be touching something too.
I assume it got up there in reverse by someone who was too heavy on the throttle when backing out of a space.

I’d just put it in reverse and ease on the gas. That ish is trail rated. It would handle that like a champ.

Don’t overthink it.
Physics can explain a lot in this world, but not necessarily sheer stupidity/ignorance.

I would back up until t he front tire climbs the rock. assuming you don’ t tip...I’d say about 40/60 chances...then build a ramp on the back side of the rock either by stacking or with planks, then just back off the rock.

Wrap it up in straps and position a couple guys on either side, about 20-30' back, holding those straps using opposing forces. One team tips the car away from the rock, the other keeps it from tipping over completely. Have them gently rock it off the boulder until just the wheels on the ground are touching. Then slowwwwly reverse the car in the “wheelie position” until you’re clear of the rock.
Opposing forces on webbing is a lot like how tree services control the fall of large limbs and trunks. Seems like a good solution.

I saw an elderly woman who was hung up on one at a Taco Bell near my house. I felt so bad for her. She was fine, but I think she probably had no idea what happened. In her instance, they brought in a flatbed and was winching it off.
If I had do to that by myself, I dunno. I know my jack wouldn’t raise it that high. I would have to find a way to get something under the rear tire (assuming RWD) and get it to the point that I can drive on to the rock and then continue down to level ground.

Not one person said “call for a tow?” really? I mean, if “I” called for a tow truck, then “I” got the car off the rock, just like “I” did a full frame-off resto-mod on that ‘70 Charger when “I” dropped it off at that shop with a che ck for $40k. Without me, it ain’t happening, so “I” should get the credit, right?

“Not one person said “call for a tow?””
That’s because I said “(assuming you had to do it on your own and maybe with the help of a friend)“
Consider as well that something like that can happen in a place or time where it may be a very long time before a tow truck gets to you... like if you’re offroading somewhere and you’re either on your own or just have some friends with you.
